It’s amazing how many different electronic items ended up wired on the front porch this year! There are the fence lights, the tombstone lights, spotlights, Wally’s eyes, George’s motor, etc. With everything running off of a single computer power supply, we ended up with quite a rat’s nest of wires. Duct take helped to keep some of the flyaway lines in place, but the central hub, and all of the careful wiring work, was in danger of being tripped over and/or stepped on.
Putting a Rat’s Nest in a Box
The solution to this problem came in the form of a few pieces of scrap wood sitting in the garage. Our new “wire box” is small, about the size of a large shoe box, and it houses all of the important connections. The box has three sides, a top, and is open in the back. Just a quick dusting of black spray paint helped to disguise it in the shadows. As you can see from the “before” and “after” pictures above, the arrangement looks better and is much safer.
Just 13 days until Halloween! Are you feeling lucky today?
